Adding a Paypal link <How to?
Posted Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 2:19 AM
Can anyone tell me or show me from your class web site how and where you added a Paypal link? Our reunion is set for 9/2010 so we just started up here getting things together. We want to allow payments mailed by check, and the option to pay via Paypal. We have already created a Paypal account.

Welcome Frank. The Reunion Planner does not integrate directly with PayPal's system, but you can create this link yourself using the "Other" payment option. In your case you should enable the "Check" payment type as well as the "Other" payment type. For the "Other" payment type you have a text area that you can utilize 1 of 2 ways: 1) Enter instructions for paying you via PayPal. You should include your PayPal email address so Classmates know where to send payment. 2) If you want it to be a little more automated you can embed PayPal "buy now" button code in that same white instructional box. Let's say you are selling reunion tickets for $50. Log into your PayPal account, click Merchant Services, click Buy Now buttons, and create a Buy Now button for reunion tickets for $50. PayPal will give you code to copy and paste into your site. Copy that code and paste it in the "Other" instructional box. When Classmates get to the point in the registration process where they are ready to pay you, a yellow PayPal payment button will appear, and when clicked will take the Classmate directly to the PayPal site to make payment for your reunion. As PayPal payments come in you can log them in your Attendee Management area.

Ok, so I can edit to add both of these payment optoins seperate from one another?..> "other" and "check"? In other words I can create the pay by "CHECK" option giving classmates needed instructions via a form to mail in the check payment. Then I can go back and create under the "other" options where I can inform classmates to pay via Paypal that I can also include the "click on" paypal payment logo. Is this what your saying? all on the same page?

Yes, that is precisely what I'm saying. You can run both the "Check" and the "Other" payment types simultaneously, providing separate instructions for each of the payment options based on what the Classmate has selected. Yes, setting this up (i.e. setting up both payment types along with any necessary instructions) all happens on the 1 master Reunion Planner page, you got it.

Thanks for quick reply. I went through the process I set up and checked the box to pay via paypal, everything appeared as edited, the paypal logo was perfect, and the options to purchase different quantities of tickets. Here's the problem im having: when i clicked on the paypal logo to finalize payment i received this error message below: We were unable to decrypt the certificate id. Obviously I must have missed where to insert paypal account email address, now how do I go about fixing this problem? class creator site or paypals site?

That's a PayPal error message. Are you encrypting the button at the PayPal site? If so make sure you copy 100% of the long code they provide you. Missing a single character can cause this problem. Also, you may want to try an unencrypted button. In this particular case there's nothing passing between systems of any sensitive or personal nature. I.E. no credit card numbers, no street address information or anything like that. Just a payment amount. Once at the PayPal system the user is right back in a secured environment. The dollar value passing really wouldn't be of any use to anybody. Thus if you're having an encryption issue a non encrypted button is a perfectly valid choice.

Thanks Brad I'll be sure to check that out. I thought I saw a place on the reunion planner page where I was supposed to add the paypal email address... Can't find that again for some reason. Do I need to update that on the reunion planning page? if so how do i go back and find it there?

That discussion pertained to Reunion Planner I. We're now on Reunion PLANNER II, which has changed significantly since I. When I have a moment I'll locate any Reunion Planner I threads and zap them so there's no confusion for anyone else.

Brad......Man your quick, thanks for that. Could it be just an email issue or is it because my site is still parked with class creator site?

No I don't think it's an email issue. My guess is if you're using the encrypted PayPal button maybe you didn't get 100% of the long code copied and pasted over. Just stabbing in the dark though. If it happens again go ahead and try generating a non encrypted button and using that code.

Thanks again Brad No it is not an email issue, you were right the first time it was an encryption issue. Above the paypal code box one must unencrypt the code by checking that box prior to copy and paste in class creator payment options for use with paypal.
